Rupert was, in fact, the very first really famous bear. He first appeared in the Daily Express on November 8, 1920.
Joint Steiff in congratulating Rupert reaching his 100th birthday with this enchanting musical Rupert whose heartbeat plays "Rupert" that famous classic song, by Jackie Lee, that reached number 14 in the UK charts in 1971.
The Express turned to Mary Tourter whos created the little bear - "Litlle Beat Lost".
He by far exceeded everyone`s expectations and captured the imagination and affection of the nation. Rupert celebrates 100 years of heritage.
Mary Tourtel flung Rupert into a fairy-tale world of magic spells, ogres, flying witches, dragons and wolves in scenes of wonderland.
So magical and marvellous were his tales that his image became known worldwide from Abu Dhabi to Zambia and beyond!
He is a childhood favourite, Steiff truly excelled in designing a triumphant interpretation of a little bear, no longer lost.
Rupert is made from white alpaca and he wears his traditional red jumper, yellow checked trousers and matching scarf.
Due to his cute lace-up shoes he can stand unaided.
He is 33 cm. / 13.2" tall and 3 ways jointed (head and arms). He is limited to 1000 pieces for the UK only and he comes with his certificate, gift box and shipping sleeve.
